Public Service / by Brett Holman

As a photographer, I've had the opportunity to learn about many careers. It's one of the best parts of my job over the years. It's interesting to learn about how people make a living and what they like about their jobs. I usually ask them what else they've done for a living. It's interesting to listen to the perspective of someone who has had multiple careers. The reality of most jobs is a far cry from the original job description. The day to day workload tends to be an erratic blend of new and old ideals. Public service work has been something I've always been interested in photographing. The more I learn about people and their careers, the more I see why people enjoy that style of work.

I know firefighters, police officers, sheriff and corrections officers and they all have a unique perspective on what they do for a living. Public service in California has been something that's always piqued my curiosity.
