Renowned California folk artist and creator of Salvation Mountain, Leonard Knight, passed away at the age of 82 yesterday. It was an honor to get to meet and photograph Knight in 2010. We chatted from the tailgate of a nearby truck about following his dream and the sacrifices he's made. At that time he was still sleeping in the back of an old 1939 fire truck just outside Niland, California. He followed his dream of creating his mountain without electricity, gas, running water, phone, heating or air conditioning. Knight's energy was infectious and he was one of the kindest people I have ever met. Thank you Leonard for sharing time with me and you will be greatly missed.
